Ricciardo is a free agent for 2021 Renault confirm
Daniel Ricciardo could end his stint at the Renault Formula 1 team after just two seasons, team advisor Alain Prost confirming that any decision on a move rests squarely with the driver and not his employer.
Ricciardo has spoken openly that he would consider a mover back to Red Bull while it is also known that Ferrari are keen admirers of the Australian.
“Daniel has a contract until the end of 2020,” Prost told Canal Plus. “So he is free.
“We don’t have the cards in our hands. We don’t have an option."
Renault junior driver Christian Lundgaard is set to compete in Formula 2 in 2020 with front-runners ART and the Dane believes he has a strong chance of landing the Formula 1 ride.
Also in the junior ranks, Renault have Guanyu Zhou. The Chinese driver managed five podiums in his maiden F2 season and will be hoping to make the step up a level himself.
“Of course we have started to discuss, which is normal," continued Prost. "Let’s imagine that everything is back to normal in 2021, then we can do the shopping we want until the end of the year.
“But in 2021, there will be the same rules as there are in 2020, and that means that once again it is not ideal for us.”
