Brawn begins to give details on how Formula 1 can race on in 2020 lockdown

Formula 1 managing director of motorsports Ross Brawn has suggested that the sport adopt 'a kind of biosphere' to ensure no risk of outside contamination during grand prix weekends.

Brawn says that once personnel are on site for a grand prix event, the best case scenario would be that they do not leave again until the weekend is over.

“One of the biggest logistical challenges will be to test everyone in order to allow access to the paddock,” Brawn told the F1 Nation podcast. “As soon as we can do that, I think it will be very tempting to keep everyone in that environment.

“It’s a kind of biosphere that we want to create for other races. Austria is a perfect fit with an airport close to the circuit. It’s not close to a big city and it has all the necessary infrastructure.

Attempting to go racing while much of the world is lockdown is a completely different challenge to anything Formula 1 has ever faced before, but Brawn is sure that it will be possible to create a safe environment for everyone involved.

“It’s a huge logistical challenge. Organising a grand prix in the current circumstances is new for us," said Brawn. "We are working to provide a safe environment for the drivers, engineers, technicians and everyone involved in the race.”
