Wolff: Aston Martin move out of the question
Talks with Daimler are ongoing about extending his future for the next few years
Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff has declared that a switch to Aston Martin's new Formula 1 operation "is definitely out of the question".
Wolff has been rumoured to be part of the project when it enters F1 in 2021 under the guidance of current Racing Point owner Lawrence Stroll.
Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone even suggested to GPFans that due to the close friendship between Stroll and Wolff that it was "more than likely" the latter would join Aston Martin, potentially as chief executive.
Wolff, though, has made clear he sees his future with Daimler.
“There is no truth to the rumours that I'm going to be CEO of Aston Martin,” said Wolff to Austrian broadcaster ORF.
“I'm in a partnership with Daimler in the F1 team and that's my priority.
“An investment consortium led by Lawrence Stroll has taken over a share [of Aston Martin]. This is a financial investment. But an operational role on my part at Aston Martin is definitely out of the question."
Wolff has confirmed he is in ongoing talks with Daimler chairman Ola Källenius about extending a partnership that began in 2013 for another few years.
“I am with Mercedes in our eighth year now and I really enjoy working with the people there," added Wolff.
"At the same time, I'm discussing our future with Ola Källenius, our joint venture and how we want to continue together.
“The platform is working very well for Mercedes as a brand and therefore everything points to us working together for the next few years.”
