Renault disqualified from Japanese GP
Their poor season gets worse.
Renault have been disqualified from the result of the Japanese Grand Prix after both Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg's cars were deemed to have broken regulations regarding driver aids.
The French squad scored a double points finish in Suzuka, with Ricciardo classified sixth and Hulkenberg coming 10th.
However, the result was called into question not long after the chequered flag when Racing Point lodged a protest against their rivals.
It was alleged that Renault were using a "pre-set, automated brake bias system".
The FIA found that the system was not tuned to a determined distance as had been alleged and was therefore not against regulations.
However, Renault were not out of trouble, as the regs state that drivers must drive the car unaided and the system in place had meant both Ricciardo and Hulkenberg did not have to make the same adjustments as all other 18 of their rivals.
Renault lose nine world championship points as a result, all but ending their slim hopes of overhauling McLaren in fourth place in the constructors' championship.
Lance Stroll moves up to ninth as a result f the decision, with Daniil Kvyat taking the final points place.
Charles Leclerc gains back the points he lost as a result of his post-race sanction for his opening-lap collision with Max Verstappen, while Pierre Gasly and Sergio Perez's tallies also receive a boost.
