Kubica hints at contingency plans for 2020
If Williams decide to dump him.
Robert Kubica believes that he must be patient in finding out whether he will have a Formula 1 seat for the 2020 season, but has hinted at having other plans should Williams decide to replace him.
The Pole made his miraculous comeback to F1 in 2019 after recovering from career-threatening injuries suffered in a rally car accident in 2011 which cost him part of his arm.
However, it hasn’t been an easy return as he has regularly been outperformed by rookie team-mate George Russell, with the Williams duo languishing at the back of the grid.
There is speculation that he could be replaced ahead of the next campaign, with Williams reserve driver and current F2 star Nicholas Latifi in the running for his seat.
Kubica admits to not being in the know about the team’s future plans, but insists he has plans of his own.
“I don’t know what I will do in 2020,” he said at the recent Verva Street Racing event in Poland.

“There are no details yet. There are plans, but not everything depends on me. We’ll see how it goes.
“The situation is like every year, it is necessary to be patient."
Williams deputy team principal Claire Williams, meanwhile, has leapt to the defence of her driver, whom she reckons provides the team with invaluable experience and knowledge.
"We needed a driver like Robert with his engineering and technical intelligence," she said.
"It's not an easy season for him, but neither Robert nor George is able to show all their skills in this car. But Robert is doing everything I expect from him."
