Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly were fourth and fifth-quickest in the Red Bull – the first time the Dutchman has outpaced his team-mate all weekend.

Daniel Ricciardo pipped Lando Norris to best of the rest honours, with Alexander Albon and Nico Hulkenberg rounding out the top 10.

Q2

Romain Grosjean and Sergio Perez went out a session after their respective team-mates while the Alfa Romeo pair were also eliminated, with Antonio Giovinazzi ahead of Kimi Raikkonen for a third race in a row. Carlos Sainz was a surprise exit for the resurgent McLaren team.
