Schumacher 'planned to manage son Mick in F1'

The seven-time world champion is still recovering from a life-threatening accident.

Michael Schumacher planned on managing his son Mick in Formula 1 after his retirement, according to the seven-time world champion’s former manager Willi Weber, who thinks Schumacher would have “loved” the opportunity work with the 20-year-old.

The legendary German driver is currently on the long road to recovery from a life-threatening skiing accident suffered six years ago which resulted in brain injuries.

He remains unable to walk or speak as he continues his rehabilitation from home, and Weber has revealed that Schumacher was looking to get back into F1 in a managerial capacity with Mick, who is now competing in Formula 2 and recently had a test with Ferrari.

"Michael was anxious to bring him into Formula 1 and to manage him, as I used to manage him. That would have been the end result of the whole story. He would have loved that,” Weber told Motorsport.com.

"Michael knows everything. He knows which teams to talk to, he knows how it all works. because he made all the experiences himself. That was his ambition.

“With his father, Mick has a heavy burden to carry. People will always compare him with Michael and say: 'His name is Schumacher, he must achieve the same results as his father'. Of course this is a huge burden for the boy.

"If Michael would still stand by his side, it would have a completely different symbolism to it. But now Mick is essentially representing his father in people's eyes. That's the problem. Because everyone compares him and everyone says, ‘He must produce the same results.’”

Weber is a long-term friend of Schumacher as well as his manager, and he confesses to having suffered a tough time in the initial period after the accident in 2013.

"I have to find closure sometime", he added.

"I suffered like a dog for three months after the accident. People talk to me no matter where I am: 'You're Willi Weber, how's Schumacher?' That's when the whole thing always starts all over again inside me.

"I wish Michael would get back on his feet as soon as possible and that I could hug him. That's my biggest wish."
