Max Verstappen was imperious in Canada as Lewis Hamilton returned to the podium for just the second time this year.

Verstappen secured his fifth win in six races after surviving late pressure from Carlos Sainz after the Ferrari driver benefitted from a cheap pit stop under the safety car.

But with one championship rival, Sergio Perez, retiring early on and the other, Charles Leclerc, recovering from 19th on the grid to finish fifth, the Dutchman extended his points lead to 46.
