Mick Schumacher warned of 'serious conversations' if crashes continue

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has warned that Mick Schumacher could face a "serious conversation" over his F1 future if he crashes again at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Schumacher's crash at Monaco saw the German tear his Haas in two for the second time this season.

The first occasion was his horrific shunt at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and Schumacher also added to the team's repair bill in Miami after he made contact with Sebastian Vettel.

Asked if another crash in Baku would necessitate serious talks with the 23-year-old, Steiner conceded: “I would say so.

"Because also we would have a serious conversation because at some stage we will run out of parts and we cannot keep up making them.

“Again, as much money as you throw at it, you just physically cannot keep doing it.

“So we need to make sure that here, nothing happens.”

Haas over budget with repairs

While Schumacher's engine survived his Monaco crash, Steiner confirmed the chassis has been sent to be checked and repaired but described the gearbox and 'a lot of other parts' as 'not okay'.

The team does have a spare chassis on-site in Azerbaijan, but Steiner revealed it has not been painted and will require sponsorship stickers applied if it is needed.

As for the season's repair bill, Steiner explained: “We have passed that.

"We passed that allowance in Jeddah. We are in front of the allowance. I would love to be in front of the amount of points we have scored but we are in front on crashes.”
