F1 warned sporting regulation changes could "create loopholes or confusion"
Alfa Romeo team principal Frederic Vasseur believes making changes to F1's sporting regulations could lead to "some loopholes or confusion".
The financial and technical regulations of F1 have undergone an overhaul of late, leading to a budget cap that was implemented last year and new aerodynamic rules that have radically altered the cars ahead of the forthcoming campaign.
Amid suggestions the sporting regulations should also be looked at given the controversy surrounding last season and, in particular, its finale, Vasseur believes constantly adding more rules will only further cloud matters.
“The sporting regs is a real question but I think it is probably more and more complex because we are adding in articles year after year," said Vasseur.
"We have to keep in mind that the racing is still the same as 25 years ago, [yet] we have probably 10 times more pages in the sporting regulations and this could create some loopholes or confusion.
“But the process and the organisation of the commissions in F1 is quite clear, that we are moving forward, trying to improve the system and we had a good discussion about this.
“I am confident we will move forward on this also.”
Vasseur says "trust" must be placed in FIA
Following the controversial ending last season, which led to Michael Masi being ousted as race director, Vasseur has backed the FIA's decision and insisted he has trust the organisation is acting in the best interests of the sport.
“They [the FIA] took a decision," added Vasseur. "We are not involved in the decision. It is an FIA approach and I think it is fair.
“We want to leave the sporting regs with the FIA, and the sporting decisions, and it’s good to have no connection between the teams, the rights holders and the FIA on this.”
