Perez "fully believes" in title opportunity
Sergio Perez "fully believes" he can claim a world championship with Red Bull.
The Mexican joined the Milton Keynes-based outfit for 2021 having impressed across his career with Sauber, McLaren and the team that is now Aston Martin.
Despite an inauspicious start, Perez took victory in Baku before going on a healthy streak of podiums at the end of the year to prove Red Bull right for extending his contract shortly after the summer break, even with Pierre Gasly performing well for AlphaTauri.
Asked on Tag Heuer's The Edge podcast why he signed an extension with Red Bull, Perez replied: “I really enjoy working with the team, to be honest, with the group of people, with the engineers, with the Red Bull culture and the brand itself. Red Bull is a huge brand and it is a lot of work relative to what I was used to in other teams.
“But I enjoy it and I really feel like a great part of it and I am working well with Max [Verstappen], with the race engineers and with all the team in general.
“I think, to me, at the stage where I am in my career, the most important thing is that I enjoy it. The time that I don’t enjoy it is the time where I have to go home because I don’t need to be here anymore.
“I am here because I fully believe that I can be a world champion and because I fully enjoy working with my team.
“That is it and I am very thankful to Red Bull for extending my contract.”
