MotoGP legend Rossi confirms switch to four wheels

MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi has confirmed his full-time switch to four wheels with a full season in the GT World Challenge Europe.

Italian Rossi will compete for acclaimed team WRT Audi after hinting at a switch to GT racing at the end of his motorcycle career.

Rossi retired from MotoGP at the end of last season after winning nine world titles in the 150cc, 250cc and MotoGP classes, with 115 race wins in total.

The WRT Audi will carry his famous number 46, although there is no indication as to the class in which Rossi will compete - Pro or Pro-Am - or to the identity of his team-mates.

The 42-year-old Italian will, however, take part in the two different disciplines - Sprint Cup and Endurance Cup.

The team is the most successful in GTWCE history, with 28 teams' and drivers' titles overall since 2011, and five from a possible six in 2021.

Rossi said: “Everybody knows that I have always been a great car racing fan and that I have always been interested in racing on four wheels once my MotoGP career would come to an end.

"Now I am completely available to devote myself to a car racing programme at a high level and with the right professional approach.

"Team WRT is the perfect fit I was looking for and I am anxious to start this new adventure with them.”
