McLaren must "face reality" as Ferrari inch towards P3 - Seidl
Andreas Seidl has insisted McLaren must "face reality" in its battle with Ferrari for third in the F1 constructors' standings after falling 31.5 points behind.
The Scuderia has outscored McLaren by 36 points to two in the first two races of the final triple-header of the season, with Lando Norris able to score just two 10th-place finishes.
The events in Mexico and Brazil have seen McLaren drop down the order from the top five due to first corner contact, whilst both Ferraris have scored points in each race.
Despite noting that Ferrari is in the hot seat for third in the standings, McLaren team principal Seidl has urged his team to press forward with expectations high entering two new tracks in Qatar and Saudi Arabia and a heavily modified circuit in Abu Dhabi.
“Clearly, we have to face reality. If everything goes well for Ferrari now to the end of the season, it will be difficult," said Seidl.
“But at the same time, as long as it is theoretically possible, we have seen so many times this year and last year what can happen on a race weekend and we will try to hang in there.
“But more importantly now is simply to get back to scoring the results that are on the table for us because I think also in the last two race weekends, whether we did not have the strongest car in this battle we are in, it was still possible to score good results.
"This is what we didn’t manage and that is what we need to do better.”
