Vettel urges Aston Martin to "pick up where we left off" with extended points run
Aston Martin has taken points from the past two weekends
Sebastian Vettel has targetted an extended run in the points for Aston Martin after ending a personal drought of four races in the United States.
After narrowly missing out on finishing third in the constructors' championship last year, then as Racing Point, Aston Martin has this time around endured a torrid season.
The team sits seventh in the table on 62 points, 32 behind AlphaTauri although 39 clear of Williams.
For Vettel, a 10th place finish in Texas was a first points return since the Belgian Grand Prix in August.
"We want to pick up where we left off in the US and build up a run of points scores," said Vettel.
"Preparation and reacting well is key because tyre performance is critical and the race can be interrupted by Safety Cars and Virtual Safety Cars.”
Team-mate Lance Stroll finished outside of the points in the US but was able to pick up two the previous weekend in Turkey.
However, the Canadian is confident of returning to the top 10 if the team can replicate the race pace of two weeks ago.
“It’s been good to have the week between the US and Mexican Grands Prix to reset and come back stronger," said Stroll.
"While our US GP didn’t quite go to plan, we showed good race pace on Sunday, so the goal is to qualify well and fight for points in the race.
"It’s quite a short lap in Mexico, but the long straights offer lots of slipstreaming and exciting racing.”
