Ricciardo would 'burn himself out' if he enjoyed Austin too much
Daniel Ricciardo has revealed a need to keep his love of the United States Grand Prix and Austin in check otherwise he would likely burn himself out.
The McLaren driver has developed a deep affinity with the race and the city over the years, which in turn has endeared the Australian to the US fans, with 400,000 flocking to the Circuit of the Americas over the course of the three days.
On occasions over the weekend, Ricciardo humorously conducted interviews with a Texan drawl while on the drivers' parade he spurned tradition by wearing team gear and instead donned a Texas Longhorns vest.
Suggested to Ricciardo that as he had not been home to Melbourne for two years Austin was 'the next best thing', he replied: "Yeah, it is.
"It's one that, for whatever reason, I treat it like a second home. There are a few races I treat like a second home and this is certainly one of them.
"I enjoy it. I try not to enjoy it too much because I could probably burn myself out, if you know what I mean.
"But the crowd was insane at the weekend. Downtown was by far the busiest it's ever been. It was just cool.
"The weather was cool, everyone was out. The anthem at the beginning was cool, and up the hill, seeing the sea of people, the crowd.
"It's one of the cooler ones. I hope we keep coming back again and again."
Asked what he loved most about Austin, he replied: "A lot. The first thing I do when I get here is to have a barbecue.
"It's the best I've ever had whenever I'm travelling the world so that's probably the best thing I enjoy."
