Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has been hit with another grid penalty ahead of this weekend's United States Grand Prix.

With Mercedes enduring technical issues with its power units this season, Bottas has taken on a SIXTH internal combustion engine [ICE], with only three allowed under the regulations.

For the Italian GP, Mercedes changed the ICE, turbocharger, MGU-H and MGU-K on the Finn's W12. That PU, however, was removed from the pool after the race.

At the following event in Russia, Mercedes added a fifth ICE, turbocharger and MGU-H.

In Turkey, seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton took on a new ICE, meaning this is the fourth consecutive race the works Mercedes team has been forced to change PU components.

Mercedes claim it is "for the best balance of performance and reliability to the end of the season".

Customer teams McLaren, Aston Martin and Williams have also been affected by Mercedes' problems.

In Turkey, McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo started at the back of the grid due to a complete PU change.

Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel and Williams' George Russell will also start at the back of the Circuit of the Americas grid on Sunday, with each taking a new ICE, turbocharger and MGU-H.
