Alonso to auction US GP helmet in aid of volcano victims
Fernando Alonso has revealed he will auction his specially designed helmet for the United States Grand Prix and launch a platform for donations in aid of the victims of La Palma's volcanic eruption.
La Palma is one of Spain's Canary Islands and has been devastated by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano.
Over one month after lava began to flow on September 19, at present there is no sign of the eruption ending.
Reports indicate over 6,000 people have been forced to leave their homes, with lava now covering over 800 hectares of land.
Alonso's helmet, which features a volcano and bananas, the latter reflecting the main trade of La Palma, will be auctioned to raise funds to help those affected.
“I will wear the helmet this weekend," said Alonso. "On Friday I will launch a platform where people can donate some money and the helmet will also be auctioned on the fourth of November to raise more money.
“Each of us can help for sure.”

Explaining his connection to the Canary Islands, Alonso added: "It is very well known because a lot of tourists come there. My ex-wife was from a Canary Island so I have a very good connection with Canary always.
“Obviously, there is not a lot of news internationally but we see every day in Spain how it evolved the volcano there and all the things that it has taken away from everybody, the houses, land, the way of living for many people.
“The main business there is the banana so there are a lot of things that have been destroyed and it will be for many, many years destroyed."
