Formula 1 has moved closer to announcing its 2025 power unit regulations with 'progress made' in a meeting on Sunday morning.

The current V6 turbo hybrid power units will be retired at the end of the 2024 season with a new configuration yet to be announced.

Volkswagen is known to have been involved in talks as to the new specification although no commitment to a future entry has been made.

After Sunday's meeting at Monza, the sport has edged a step closer to confirming its future direction.

"Today a meeting took place involving the FIA, Formula 1, and existing and prospective power unit suppliers on the potential new power unit," said Formula 1 and the FIA in a joint statement.

"The discussion was positive, and progress was made. Some details remain to be addressed, however, we expect these to be resolved in the coming weeks."
