Ferrari must forget form to focus on "exploiting" Baku chances - Binotto
Ferrari impressed at Monaco but Binotto insists the team must not look past this weekend at potential winning opportuniy
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto will not allow the team to become distracted by future chances for race victories at this weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
After the worst season for the Scuderia since 1980 last year, Charles Leclerc provided hope of a bright future when qualifying on pole for the Monaco Grand Prix last time out, only to fail to start due to damage overhanging from his qualifying crash.
Carlos Sainz finished second, providing some solace for the team, but Binotto has insisted Ferrari must remain focussed on this weekend's race and not look ahead to the opportunities of other low-speed layouts.
“There will be circuits with low-speed corners that we may be competitive but it’s not a given," said Binotto.
"I think that on our side instead of thinking which circuits will be back competitive I think we are already focused on Baku, which is the next one, and then we focus on the following because there is still room for exploiting better the car.
"We have shown if we are well preparing the race weekend we can at least exploit the best potential of the car itself."
Ferrari upgrades aim to jump ahead of McLaren
Ferrari sits two points behind McLaren in fourth in the constructors' championship heading to Baku, with both teams continuing to bring updates at the coming races.
On Ferrari's plans, Binotto added: "There will be some developments coming, not much but still they will be coming, so it’s step by step.
"For us, it's important to continue working and developing in the right direction as a team and keep improving and even tough weekends like this one where we have a failure I think there is a lot of lessons learned and that’s the most important thing.”
