Giovinazzi dejected after suffering similar Alonso brake issue fate
A visor tear-off blocked the brake ducts on Giovinazzi's Alfa Romeo
Antonio Giovinazzi was left to rue more misfortune for Alfa Romeo after a visor tear-off led to his brakes overheating at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
After a difficult qualifying for the team, with both cars knocked out in Q1, Giovinazzi was running behind team-mate Kimi Raikkonen in the points in the second half of the race at Imola.
But Giovinazzi's bid to finish in the top 10 was thwarted when he was forced to make a pit stop to remove debris from the car's brake ducts.
Just three weeks earlier in Bahrain, Fernando Alonso had to retire due to his brakes on his Alpine overheating after a sandwich wrapper lodged in the ducts.
Despite the lack of luck, the Italian was happy with the C41's performance and is hopeful good fortune will eventually turn his way
"It was really difficult, especially in the beginning, to see was impossible, to be honest," he said of the wet conditions.
"Until [the issue], we did everything well. After the red flag also, I was in the points, faster than the guys in front so I think it was possible to do really well but then I had to stop for a tear-off that increased my rear-brake temperature.
"Really unlucky and I hope we can turn around and have even more luck in the next one and show us what we can do."
Alfa Romeo did have Raikkonen finish in the top 10, only to be handed a harsh penalty for a safety car restart infringement, stripping the team of its first points of the season.
Giovinazzi is at least enthused by the pace of the car shown at Imola, believing it has the potential to consistently fight for points.
"I think we have a good car," he added. "[In qualifying] we didn't do a lap and didn't show our potential and in the race, we can be there in the top 10 so we need to do more in the next races."
