Gasly targeting shock overhaul of Ferrari
Pierre Gasly has set his sights on adding to Ferrari's misery this year and overhauling the Scuderia in the Formula 1 constructors' championship.
Ferrari is on course for its worst finish for 40 years as the team currently sits sixth in the standings, just 13 points ahead of AlphaTauri.
With Gasly scoring consistently this season, and team-mate Daniil Kvyat also now putting together a string of strong performances, the Frenchman sees no reason why AlphaTauri cannot demote Ferrari to seventh in the championship by season's end.
"At the moment, it is very tight, we are seventh in the championship," said Gasly.
"There will be opportunities at the end of the year and for us as a team, it will be important to squeeze a few more points and try to get sixth place for AlphaTauri in the teams' championship."
Gasly has also revealed his relief at finding that consistency with his performances this season during what has been a resurgent campaign with AlphaTauri.
Gasly's F1 career appeared to be falling apart mid-way through 2019 following his demotion from Red Bull as he made way for Alex Albon.
The 24-year-old however, has been in inspired form this year and currently sits 10th in the drivers' standings ahead of McLaren's Carlos Sainz, Renault's Esteban Ocon and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.
Although the highlight of his season was a maiden victory at the action-packed Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Gasly has impressed himself most by his increased consistency throughout the campaign.
"I think that was a personal target coming into this season," he said.
"We finished last year very strong with Toro Rosso and this was my personal target, to find some more consistency for my third full season in Formula 1. Things so far have been pretty good.
"There are still areas we can improve. Recently we have been able to fight for the top-10 on a more consistent basis and that is what we need to keep pushing for."
