Truncated Eifel GP "the type of weekend you can have your moment" - Ricciardo
Ricciardo predicting an entertaining wet race at the Nürburgring
Daniel Ricciardo is excited by the potential opportunities from the Eifel Grand Prix after both practice sessions on Friday were cancelled due to fog.
With the medical helicopter prevented from flying at the Nürburgring, 180 minutes of running was lost, leaving all teams and drivers with the final hour-long final practice on Saturday to complete their homework ahead of qualifying.
As the highest points scorer outside of Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas over the past four races, the Australian is excited by the prospect of what is possible over the weekend.
"When was the last boring wet race we had or a weekend like this?" questioned the Renault driver.
"It does certainly throw some variety and opportunity. I think for us, the midfield battle, this is the type of weekend you can have your moment."
The conditions, though, are not totally to Ricciardo's liking. He added: "I was excited to drive, but I was following the weather over the last week.
"I am not built for the cold so I wasn't excited to land in like 10 degrees, and I think colder on the weekend, but I am of course excited to race. We have had a great run so, keep it going."
While Saturday is at least forecast to be dry, further rain is scheduled for Sunday when temperatures are not expected to rise above eight degrees, which could cause problems if the safety car is required.
"If there is a safety car, once the tyres drop below a given temperature, it gets more and more slippery," said Ricciardo.
"The only way to get them going again is to go faster and faster, yet you're losing grip, so naturally you are going slower. It is a spiral effect.
"To get them going you have to take more risks and you are taking risks when the grip is lower so that is a challenge.
"But we are all going to be in the same boat in that situation so [it is about] whoever holds it together I guess."
