Schumacher gains crucial insight into F1 despite fog ruining debut
Mick Schumacher will continue to collect "valuable information" from his visit to the Nürburgring this weekend despite seeing his planned F1 debut wiped out by fog
F2 championship-leader Schumacher and main rival Callum Ilott were set to run in first practice with Alfa Romeo and Haas respectively, only for the medical helicopter to be grounded by the conditions.
Schumacher refused to let his spirits be dampened as he intends to soak up as much insight as possible while in the Alfa Romeo garage.
"I’ll stay here with the team, go over the meetings and the procedures on how the actual F1 drivers are doing at the moment to then get an inside on how things are running," said the 20-year-old.
"It’s going to be very valuable for me, valuable information and I’m very much looking forward to it.
"Obviously it’s been a shame not to be able to get out. We knew the weather forecast didn’t look great. This time of the year in the Eifel is not the most sure it’s going to be dry.
"From that side, we knew it might be wet and it was. Preparation was good, we’ve done a lot of meetings and I got so much knowledge. It’s been very helpful."
Despite being the son of the most successful F1 driver of all time, with father Michael also winning five races at the Nürburgring, Schumacher insisted there is no additional pressure on him because of his father's legacy.
"The pressure is always there, no matter how your name is," he continued.
"You want to show yourself, you want to do a good job. My name won’t bring me on top of the championship, it’s the achievements and the work with the team behind the scenes that’s important.
"We’re doing a very good job in F2 and that proves we’re obviously in the right spot at the right time."
