Franz Tost: We are in a good position for the season

A positive few days in Barcelona for the team

Scuderia AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost feels the team are in a good place ahead of the upcoming Formula 1 season, following the first round of testing in Barcelona.

Their cars completed just under 400 laps across the sessions, with both drivers picking up plenty of experience, and Tost reckons that the work done in the close season has left them well positioned for the 2020 campaign.

Daniil Kvyat (fifth) and Pierre Gasly (10th) both recorded positive times and speaking to the media yesterday, the Austrian said:: “ I think we are going in the right direction which is a good sign.

“We had three very fruitful test days here in Barcelona, completing more than 100 laps every day - 384 in total - and we learned a lot about the car.

"But we still have to work on the final setup.”

Tost was however disappointed that his team could not have completed a few more laps but feels that they have a much better understanding of the car, and his engineers have a lot to work with.

“It’s a pity we lost some track time today due to a little issue toward the end of the day, but we got a good understanding of the new aerodynamics on the car.

“The engineers now have a lot of data to analyse, to come back with and be well prepared for next week for the second test.”
