Ferrari as quick as Red Bull in Brazil corners - Binotto

Ferrari as quick as Red Bull in Brazil corners - Binotto

Mattia Binotto believes Ferrari were as quick as Red Bull through the corners at the Brazilian Grand Prix, hinting at fundamental changes to the SF90's strengths.

The Scuderia ran third and fourth at Interlagos until Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc collided to leave Binotto stewing over a double DNF.

Max Verstappen dominated the race, winning from pole, although Pierre Gasly managing to outdrag Lewis Hamilton for second place at the line suggested Honda's power unit was working well at the altitude of Sao Paulo.

Despite coming away from Brazil empty-handed, Binotto saw reason to be encouraged by Ferrari's progress.

"Certainly they were fast. They were fast that around the lap, they were fast on the straight as well," Binotto said.

"We need to analyse it but if I look our quali compared to them, I think we're almost matching them in grip-limited [conditions].

"And it was very close as well on the straight line, in terms of being power-limited. So I think it's a balance between aero configuration, what you're choosing.

"It is the very first time maybe where we are so close to them in grip-limited, showing that as Ferrari we are moving in a different set-up direction, giving advantage in the cornering."
