Correa suffered broken legs and spinal injury in fatal Hubert crash

Juan Manuel Correa has undergone surgery after suffering fractures to both legs and a spinal injury in the crash which cost Anthoine Hubert his life in Formula 2's Belgium feature race.

Correa crashed into Hubert at high speed at Spa-Francorchamps, causing significant damage to his Sauber Junior Team car and leaving the Frenchman's Arden in pieces.

Both were taken to hospital, where Correa remains in a stable condition, but Hubert was pronounced dead at 18:35 local time.

"Today, American Juan Manuel Correa was involved in a scary incident at the Belgium Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium," a statement read.

"A victim of an accident that happened in front of him, Correa had no place to go and made contact with a fellow competitor's stopped FIA Formula 2 car. Suffering fractures to both of his legs and a minor spinal injury, Correa underwent surgery and is resting in Intensive Care.

"At the current moment, Juan Manuel Correa's condition is stable. He was taken by helicopter to a hospital where he underwent surgery. Juan Manuel remained conscious the entire time until his admission to the operating room."

Tributes poured in from across the world of motorsport for 22-year-old Hubert, a two-time winner in his debut F2 campaign and a member of Renault's young driver programme.

"While you keep Juan Manuel in your thoughts and prayers, please also pray for the wellbeing of Anthoine Hubert's friends and family. In motorsports, we are a family, and we lost one of our family members today."
