Perez very close to reaching 2020 deal

Sergio Perez says an announcement is due soon on his future in F1, amid expectations that he will once again drive for Racing Point in 2020.

Perez has raced for the team since 2014, under its old Force India moniker and the new banner, adopted after Lawrence Stroll's takeover a little over a year ago.

In that time, Perez has delivered five podiums for the team, a significant rarity for midfielders in an era dominated so much by Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.

With top seats already at a premium for 2020, Perez is likely to remain with the Silverstone outfit, who hope that their newfound riches can start to pay off in 2020, with a new factory also on the way.

"I am confident and I hope that soon we can announce it and just can get on with it," he said.

"I think I am very close to finding out what I am going to do for next year, so it shouldn't be long before I know."

Racing Point's season has been up and down at best, with the car still hampered by the team's financial issues at the start of the year, with Perez and Stroll left to play catch-up over the next nine races, starting in Spa, where the Mexican qualified fourth last year.

"It's a good place for us," he said. "We've been strong in the past so I see no reason why we cannot be strong this weekend.

"The margins in the midfield are very small, so a little improvement it can put us back in contention to be the fourth fastest here.

"We are aiming to finish the season on a high. It has been a struggle all the way up to now but margins are small, we are improving, so hopefully we can finish the season with the fourth fastest car."
