Ricciardo 'very disrespectful' in Hungary qualifying - Perez
Both went out in Q1.
Sergio Perez accused Daniel Ricciardo of a "very disrespectful" manoeuvre which ultimately left both drivers counting the cost of Q1 elimination in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Ricciardo hit traffic queuing into the final corner ahead of the final Q1 runs and went around a number of cars as he sought clear air, only to find Perez would not accept being overtaken, as the pair raced to the pit straight.
Eventually the Renault driver had to back out right at the start of his lap, effectively knocking him out immediately and condemning him to 18th on the grid.
Perez was in no doubt that the Australian only had himself to blame, however,
"You see the car ahead, and everyone is just opening gaps," Perez told Sky Sports. "I think what Daniel tried there was very disrespectful, he screwed up his lap and my lap.
"I ended up starting my lap too close to [Lando] Norris, I think Daniel was also very close to me, so it was just a very bad day for us.
"We are queuing for the final lap and he tries to overtake. I was having to push because it was the final corner, otherwise you start too close to him, and that meant I was too close to Norris."
Ricciardo questioned his Renault team for not managing to find him a piece of clear track, as he suffered his first Q1 elimination with the French team.
"It was a bit of mess basically, opening the lap," he told Sky.
"We put ourselves in traffic, and at that point I felt like we could have known what was going to happen better, coming up the last corner, if I needed to create space earlier.
"So I wasn't creating space, and then we got to last corner and everyone's backed up.
"What do you do? Do You try and pass them, and keep your tyre temperature there, or do you hang back and try start the lap with cold tyres?
"I tried to go and then Perez and the others weren't trying to have that.
"I felt like Perez and I just screwed each other - just too late trying to make something happen, and then the lap's compromised.
"Right now, it is certainly the most upset I've been in a while."
