F1 set to announce return of Dutch Grand Prix from 2020 - report

Max fans get set to go wild!

Dutch circuit Zandvoort and Formula 1 are believed to have reached a deal to bring a Grand Prix back to the Netherlands from as early as the 2020 season, according to reports.

Editor-in-chief of Formula 1 magazine, Andre Venema, tweeted on Monday evening that the agreement is all but official and will be announced in the near future, with terms being agreed on a five-year contract.

If confirmed the Netherlands will join Vietnam as being newly-added for 2020 as Liberty Media push ahead with their plans to expand the calendar.

There are 21 races on the calendar in 2019 and though some major circuits are yet to renew, Liberty have made no secret of their desire to find the most efficient number of races, somewhere in the region or 23 or 24 per season.

Zandvoort has been mooted as a potential destination for some time, enhanced by the meteoric rise of Max Verstappen to the pinnacle of the sport, and his incredible popularity in his homeland. Liberty know that any race hosted there will be vehemently supported by Verstappen's emphatic fans.

The last Dutch Grand Prix was held 35 years ago, when the legendary Niki Lauda claimed victory, and should events proceed as planned the race is being pencilled in for May 2020.
