Streaming service Netflix has officially announced the global premiere of its latest motorsport documentary, featuring seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.
Titled Schumacher '94 - The Birth of a Legend, the film is set for release on October 2, 2026 and it delves into the turbulent and historic 1994 Formula 1 season, the year that the then 25-year-old German, driving for Benetton, captured his first world title.
Michael's wife Corinna plays a significant role in the project, offering personal insights into their early romance, the overwhelming surge of “Schumi mania,” and the emotional rollercoaster of that unforgettable season.
Since Michael’s awful skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013, which left the former Ferrari driver with serious brain injuries, Corinna has diligently safeguarded his privacy and legacy.

F1 in 1994: Triumph and tragedy
The 1994 season remains one of the most dramatic and controversial in Formula 1 history. The film not only highlights Schumacher's meteoric rise but also revisits the dark moments of the Imola race weekend, when fatal crashes claimed the lives of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger.
It also examines allegations of technical foul play and the use of illegal electronic aids within the Benetton team, culminating in the dramatic season finale in Adelaide.

Key paddock figures share their stories
Featuring exclusive, never-before-seen archival footage, the documentary gathers firsthand accounts from prominent figures who witnessed that pivotal season.
Former F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone and then-Benetton team principal Flavio Briatore recall the ascent of the German superstar and the behind-the-scenes political machinations.
Ex-driver David Coulthard also shares his experiences, recounting how he was unexpectedly promoted to race for Williams in 1994 after Senna’s death, thrust immediately into an intense title battle.
