Lewis Hamilton's bid to claim a record eighth F1 world title has faltered at the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend, with the British superstar falling further behind in the standings.

The 41-year-old Ferrari superstar could only finish P7 in Saturday's sprint race after a miserable qualifying session on Friday. That allowed championship leader Kimi Antonelli (P4) to extend his lead at the head of the points table to 53 points.

Hamilton is now under further pressure from Antonelli's Mercedes team-mate George Russell in second place after the 28-year-old British ace claimed a fine victory in that sprint.

The signs for Hamilton going into today's 72-lap race at Zandvoort (2pm UK, Sky Sports F1) are not good either - he could only qualify in fifth position on the grid on Saturday. Antonelli meanwhile is two positions ahead in third.

Reigning world champion Lando Norris claimed pole as McLaren continue their recent resurgence following his brilliant victory last time out at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
