Ferrari grants Ilott GT opportunity
Ilott will contest the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup
Ferrari has confirmed Formula 1 test driver Callum Ilott will race for the Scuderia in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup this year.
After finishing as F2 runner-up last season and missing out on a race seat in F1, Ferrari initially handed Ilott the test driver role.
But aware the 22-year-old Briton needs to remain active, Ferrari has confirmed Ilott will drive a Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020, entered by Iron Lynx, in a series formerly known as the Blancpain Endurance Championship.
The move comes as Ferrari's Driver Academy has opted to "expand its sphere of activity, strengthening its collaboration with Competizioni GT", a division of the Scuderia that is an official entrant in the World Endurance Championship and supports customers, both teams and drivers, competing in GT series.
Ilott will be partnered by two other Ferrari drivers in Competizioni GT works driver and simulator specialist Davide Rigon, as well as former FDA member Antonio Fuoco.
Fuoco is also a simulator specialist for the Scuderia and driver coach for the Academy students.
The opening round will see Ilott drive in the Monza 3 Hours on April 18, with the headline event being the 24 Hours of Spa at the end of July.
Via twitter, Ilott said of the opportunity: "Very excited to debut in @GTWorldChEu with @IronLynx_ for this year. Definitely something different to what I’m used to but that’s all part of the challenge ??thank you to @insideFDA and Competizioni Gt for making this happen."
