Albon to race AlphaTauri-liveried Red Bull Ferrari in DTM
Alex Albon is to race an AlphaTauri-liveried Red Bull entry for AF Corse Ferrari in DTM this season.
The Formula 1 reserve driver was previously confirmed to be contesting selected rounds of the German championship this season alongside junior driver Liam Lawson, who will run in a traditional Red Bull-liveried car.
Albon, who has never raced competitively in closed-cockpit vehicles, revealed he is excited for the new challenge awaiting him in the series in which he will drive a Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo.
“DTM is a great series with highly talented drivers in the field and exciting racing,” he said.
“I’ve only driven a ‘tin top’ once back in 2015 when I was nominated for the Autosport BRDC Young Driver award, and they’re really different to single-seaters.
"There’s a lot less downforce and the tyres are very different, so it requires a different kind of driving style.
"It will take a bit of time to get used to, but I'm looking forward to a new racing challenge when I’m available outside of my existing F1 commitments.”
Welcoming Albon to the team, AF Corse boss Amato Ferrari said: “In a short time, we have reached the agreement to work with Red Bull with great enthusiasm.
“We have just one ambition: victory. Considering the brands involved, all the requirements are there to aspire to be successful.”
Nick Cassidy will deputise for Albon when fulfilling his duties with the Red Bull F1 programme.
