Magnussen wins multi-million pound legal battle with former manager

Former Haas driver Kevin Magnussen can finally "concentrate on creating a new life" according to father Jan after winning a four-year, multi-million-pound legal battle with his former manager.

Denmark's Eastern High Court has ruled Magnussen will not have to pay 20 per cent of his gross income from 2015 to the present day to Dorte Riis Madsen, who has been ordered to pay costs of DKK 540,000 [£65,000].

The judgment, which cannot be appealed against, overturns a prior verdict from the Copenhagen City Court that in 2018 ruled in favour of Madsen

The High Court, however, has determined that Madsen does own 20 per cent of a company formed by Magnussen in conjunction with billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen.

But the final ruling on a case that began in 2017 means Magnussen can now head into his new racing career away from Formula 1 this season with a clear mind.

Speaking to Danish newspaper BT, Jan Magnussen said: "I'm just glad it's over. I am happy for him. Now he can move on and concentrate on what he needs to.

"The case has affected him, not so much in his everyday life, but when things have been up and running and there has been a lot of talk about it, then it is hard not to think about it.

"I am glad he no longer has to think about it anymore and can concentrate on creating a new life."

Magnussen is to compete in next weekend's Daytona 24 with Chip Ganassi Racing ahead of a campaign in the IMSA SportsCar Championship.
