Schumacher "not scared" by Haas performance deficit

Schumacher "not scared" by Haas performance deficit

Ewan Gale

Haas driver Mick Schumacher has revealed he is "not scared" by his new team's recent struggles ahead of his debut campaign in Formula 1

After emerging as champion from a highly competitive Formula 2 field last year, Schumacher joins a Haas team that has struggled for form over the past two seasons, collecting a miserly three points last term.

But the 21-year-old Ferrari Driver Academy graduate has rubbished any question of being concerned by the lack of performance.

“I think that the team has a great deal of experience and super people working with them," he said. "So I am sure that we will manage, together, to do something great, hopefully.

"I am looking forward to working with them closely and hopefully with, in the near future, corona maybe decreasing, being able to work closer personally, too.

“I am not scared at all and I am just really looking forward to it and can’t wait to get started.”

With his Ferrari ties and his father Michael's legacy, many view Schumacher's end target is naturally to race for the Scuderia.

Schumacher has remained grounded, however, and set his sights purely on helping his new team develop into a competitive force.

“My path, or my journey, has just started," he added. "So obviously I am super proud and super happy to be racing for the Haas Formula 1 team.

"I am happy to be there and to be working there and really trying also to build something together.”
