Abu Dhabi layout is fixable - Ocon
Esteban Ocon believes the failings of the Yas Marina Circuit are fixable after claiming it was difficult for drivers to provide any entertainment during the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Ocon’s team-mate Daniel Ricciardo felt sorry for fans after the sport put on a ”grim” spectacle in the final race of the year and called for changes to be made to ensure the “awesome” venue stays on the calendar but provides better racing.
Renault driver Ocon, who finished ninth after starting from 11th on the grid, believes it could be easily solved. He said: “I think having a bit more camber in the corners would help, because they are all off-camber so you really slide.
“Obviously it’s a challenge, but it’s not nice for following another car, it makes things tricky. I am pretty sure that we could do things [to make it] better but it requires work.”
The top three finished in the positions they started, but there was some action behind the leaders and Ocon did manage to provide one bit of entertainment, squeezing past Lance Stroll’s Racing Point to snatch ninth place on the final lap.
“At least I managed to overtake in the last lap. I did enjoy watching that,” joked Ocon. “But apart from that, I heard it was a bit boring, and yes it was very tough to overtake, it’s quite difficult to follow in the last sector.”
