To question my motivation is “really stupid” – Verstappen
Max Verstappen thinks it is "really stupid" to question his motivation in Formula 1 as the Dutchman insists he has the best job in the world.
Verstappen has been in incredible form for Red Bull this year as he has consistently challenged Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, even taking a win at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone, to lie second in the drivers' standings.
But when his motivation as a racing driver was questioned in knowing he realistically cannot win a race unless of an issue with, or an error by Mercedes, the 22-year-old was not afraid to counter.
"I don’t understand why people think you wouldn’t be motivated," retorted Verstappen.
"You have one of the best jobs in the world in driving super-fast cars and I’m driving third or second. And one win.
"I find it incredible that people think you wouldn’t be motivated, it’s really stupid."
After standing on the podium for six consecutive races, the Dutchman is adamant he could not be happier as a person about his job.
"I love what I’m doing," added Verstappen, who is 47 points adrift of Hamilton going into this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, and three ahead of Bottas.
"Every weekend I come here and I love driving the car. I want to, of course, try to challenge them [Mercedes] but if it’s not possible I settle for the best result possible in the car I have and I’m still enjoying it. "
