Twist in Racing Point saga as Ferrari appeal stewards' decision

Ferrari has become the first team to appeal against the stewards' decision imposed against Racing Point in the latest twist to the brake ducts saga.

Scuderia team principal Mattia Binotto remarked during the FIA press conference that he would consider his options after a 14-page document was issued detailing the case.

Racing Point was docked 15 constructors' championship points and fined €400,000 after a Renault protest was upheld over the legality of the brake ducts used on this season's RP20.

The penalty has been frowned up by a number of the team's rivals and deemed to be too lenient given what they claim to be the severity of the situation.

A Ferrari spokesperson confirmed: "We can confirm that we have just stated our intention to appeal against this morning's FIA stewards' decision regarding Racing Point."

The fact Ferrari has been the first to pull the trigger is now expected to see other teams follow suit, with the likes of McLaren CEO Zak Brown and Williams deputy team principal Claire Williams declaring during the same press conference their own unhappiness with the verdict.
