Mercedes confirm Bottas' condition after big Mexico crash

Mercedes confirm Bottas' condition after big Mexico crash

Matthew Scott

Valtteri Bottas was cleared fit after a heavy crash brought his Mexican Grand Prix qualifying to a premature end.

Bottas crashed at the last corner of his final flying lap in Q3.

After getting out of shape through the stadium section, Bottas became trapped in the barriers and skated along until he ran into a section of barrier jutting into his path.

He was taken to the medical centre, with the medical car deployed due to the G-forces involved in the collision, however he was soon given the all-clear.

What is uncertain, however, is whether the damage done to his Mercedes will necessitate repairs that will trigger grid penalties.

A Mercedes statement read: "The car is extensively damaged, we are assessing exactly what work needs to be completed for it to be ready to race."
