Kubica: Russian GP the worst weekend of my career

Kubica: Russian GP the worst weekend of my career

Robert Kubica thinks the Russian Grand Prix was the worst race of his career so far, as his Williams was pulled off the track for a, seemingly needless, early retirement.

It was confirmed recently that the Pole would not be retained by the team for 2020, with speculation mounting that Williams are suffering financially.

The race in Sochi would support this theory as Kubica’s car was retired, not due to any current issues at the time, but so Williams could "conserve parts ahead of the coming races" according to an official statement from the team.

Rather than directly suggest Williams are desperately trying to save money, Kubica opted to leave the details ambiguous.

"I could say something, but that would not be right, so it's better to say nothing," he told Eleven Sports.

"But I had the goal to finish all the races and it's a pity that this will not happen now.

"For some things, it's better not to go into details or try to understand them. I understand to an extent."

The DNF result contributed to the Pole’s worst-ever weekend in Formula 1 or any other series.

"On Friday after four laps I said something was wrong with the car, but nothing was done," Kubica revealed.

"I have not had a worse weekend than this since the beginning of my career. And I am not talking about the level of my driving.

"Now I am going home and I will do some reflecting, also for next year."
