Ricciardo handed additional Singapore grid penalties

Renault with the tactical decision.

Renault have fitted Daniel Ricciardo with a new MGU-K and control electronics for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Ricciardo takes a 10-place grid penalty as a result, although the sanction is immaterial as he was already set to start from the back of the grid due to an infringement in qualifying.

Renault confirmed that the move was purely tactical, in order to add fresh parts to his engine pool, effectively without a penalty.

The Australian's car was found to have "exceeded the MGU-K power limit of 120 kW" during Q1 at the Marina Bay Circuit.

Although the lap was not Ricciardo's fastest of the session and the boost lasted for, in the team's words, "one microsecond" stewards still deemed fit to exclude him from the qualifying results.

Ricciardo had put his Renault eighth on the grid, but will instead fight through the field on a track notoriously difficult for overtaking.
