Gasly crash: Red Bull running out of spare parts

Red Bull chief advisor Helmut Marko says that there was nothing wrong with Pierre Gasly’s car to cause his crash during practice for the German Grand Prix, but admitted the team is running out of spare parts to fix it after the Frenchman’s mistake.

During the second practice session at Hockenheim, Gasly lost control to slide off the track where he eventually smashed into the barrier, causing significant damage to his car.

It was the latest in a raft of mistakes made by Gasly since making the move from Toro Rosso to Red Bull. Marko has suggested, perhaps with his tongue in his cheek, that the team are running out of parts to accommodate the mistakes.

"It was a simple driving mistake, there was no problem with the race car, Pierre just lost the car out of control,” Marko told Speedweek.

“I hope that does not dampen Gasly's confidence.

“But the focus is currently on the question of whether we can repair the car. We certainly do not lack our skills, but we are starting to run out of spare parts.”

Gasly was not the only driver to lose control during practice, as Valtteri Bottas very nearly hit the barriers in the same position where Sebastian Vettel surrendered the win in 2018.

However, the Finn was luckier than Gasly and escaped with no significant car damage.
