Red Bull lament £250K damage in Austria
A very costly FP1!
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner put a valuation of £250,000 worth of damage done to the teams cars by running wide over Spielberg's savage kerbs in FP1 in Austria.
Both Pierre Gasly and Max Verstappen damaged their cars during the first session, although they were not alone in that as several drivers snapped carbon fibre over the 'sausage' kerbs at Turns 4, 9 and 10 at the Red Bull Ring.
Horner called on the FIA to come up with a different solution to prevent drivers from exceeding track limits, saying that the kerbing was "inviting" them to push the limits, rather than respect the rules.
"It's been a bit of a challenge. We've got through about three front wings so far; probably about 250 grand's worth of damage. But we're not alone in that.
"There is I'm sure going to be a debate about the angle of these yellow triangles, the way they are.
"They [the drivers] know they're there, I just think the angle that they're at, I think that's what they really need to look at.
"There's been a lot of discussion about these kerbs here over the last couple of years.
"It needs something either more substantial that is a real deterrent because the invitation is there for the drivers to try to use it."
