Gasly fears Ricciardo "nightmares"
AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly expects to have "nightmares" over Daniel Ricciardo's rear wing after spending the majority of the Italian Grand Prix stuck behind the Australian.
Gasly finished eighth at Monza but was forced to study the rear wing of Ricciardo's McLaren having been unable to overtake.
Although the pair's battle was occasionally interrupted by Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and the second McLaren of Lando Norris, Gasly was glued to his rival's gearbox before Ricciardo retired on lap 47.
“I’m not going to lie, I think I’m probably going to have nightmares of Daniel’s rear wing over the next couple of days because I spent so, so much time right behind him," said Gasly.
“It was actually a race against myself because I was getting so mad. I was fuming but I tried as hard as I could and was trying to put pressure on him to make a mistake. It never happened.
“He did a really clean race on his side. We tried and I know we gave it everything, we tried everything and we scored some good points which always feels good.”
The Frenchman was forced to sit out his media duties on Thursday prior to the weekend due to ill health but recovered in time so as not to miss any on-track running.
“A very long weekend but with a nice end," he reflected.
"I’m really happy with the P8 in the end. Q3 on Saturday, started P5 and we managed to get a good start and fight with the McLaren for most of the race."
