Ricciardo backed for Alpine return as Ricciardo divorce judged - GPFans poll results
How GPFans readers viewed the events of the week!
GPFans readers have voted on a series of polls across the week and we have listened.
Part one of our results round-up centres around Daniel Ricciardo and his recently announced split with McLaren.
We asked if the divorce was justified and where the Australian will call home in 2023.
Here are the results.
Ricciardo-McLaren split verdict
Both Ricciardo and McLaren have conceded their relationship is one that simply has not worked.
The two parties have worn glum expressions when speaking on the matter and it is clear the decision has come with some severe emotional baggage.
But from the outside, GPFans readers have been forced to concede McLaren has ultimately made the correct choice.
We asked, 'Is McLaren right to divorce Ricciardo?', and you responded:
Yes. F1 is about results and results have not been good enough! - 73 per cent
No. He's a proven winner and results were certain to come! - 27 per cent
What you said:
Darren commented: "It was the wrong decision for McLaren when they hired him to be honest. Look what he did to get the seat, stabbing his current team in the back.
"It's not really all that much of a surprise though, he did the same to Red Bull to get the seat in Renault. To be fair, I understand WHY he chose to leave RBR, but they thought he was staying but he knew he wasn't, so that was underhanded. Where does he go now though?"
DaveAtkins added: "Love Danny Ric...love McLaren more....results were not good enough, unfortunately."
Alpine next for Ricciardo?
Ricciardo has quickly been linked with the majority of the five seats available to him for 2023.
The Australian has confirmed he has had numerous enquiries on his availability and has not denied taking calls from Haas and Williams.
But GPFans readers delivered an overwhelming verdict when asked for their thoughts on where Ricciardo will compete next season.
Alpine - 67 per cent
Haas - 21 per cent
Alfa Romeo - Six per cent
AlphaTauri - Three per cent
Williams - Three per cent
What you said:
AndyFromSandy questioned: "The thing is though which team actually wants to take a chance?
"'With eight race wins to his name...', at this point in time, so what? It could be argued he is the reason McLaren are not in 4th in the WDC. Put that on your application form for a new job!"
WendyJones19 added simply: "Alpine please offer him a seat!"
