Lewis Hamilton issues Brad Pitt F1 film demand
Lewis Hamilton has revealed his prospective blockbuster F1 film is aiming to show off "how great the sport really is".
Apple confirmed in the build-up to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix that the seven-time F1 champion would be a producer for the film set to star Brad Pitt and be directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski.
Oscar-winning actor Pitt will play a driver who comes out of retirement to race alongside a rookie, with Apple seeing off competition from rival studios Paramount, MGM, Sony, Universal, Disney, Netflix and Amazon to land the project.
"I can't really say too much about it because I don't even know if it has been properly announced yet but something we are working on in the background, a super exciting project," said Hamilton. "It has been a long time waiting."
On whether he would feature in the film, Hamilton replied: "I don't plan to be in it, no.
"But it is a really cool project, we are already working on the script for example. I am very much involved in the script which is fun and spending good time with Brad which is pretty epic."
Explaining his role and responsibilities for the project, Hamilton confirmed a similar quest for equality to the one he has set in F1, and the need for the move to offer a more realistic representation of the sport compared to others of the past.
"My responsibility, and something I take on, is just making sure the cast and the crew in the background are diverse, something I am really highlighting at the beginning," the Mercedes driver added.
"If you look at all the racing movies, I can't exactly say in the past they have been spectacular and that is something we want to change.
"It is about showing how great this sport really is to people who have never watched it but also making sure we keep the real heritage and the true racing spirit within the movie and in the script."
