Wolff apologises to Hamilton for 'undriveable' Mercedes
Toto Wolff issued an apology to Lewis Hamilton for his 'undriveable' Mercedes W13 after the seven-time world champion finished in P13 at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
Hamilton suffered the indignity of being lapped by race winner and last season's title rival Max Verstappen and struggled consistently with the ongoing porpoising issue throughout the race.
Team-mate George Russell was able to finish P4 but Hamilton's miserable season continues and Wolff felt obliged to issue his driver with an apology for the performance of the car.
Speaking over team radio at the end of the race, Wolff said to Hamilton: "Hi Lewis, sorry for what you had to drive today, I know this is undriveable.
Hamilton responded: "Yeah, no worries Toto. Keep on working hard."
Wolff then replied: "We will come out of this."
Wolff confirmed to Sky Sports F1 after the race he had said sorry to Hamilton and the condition of the car was something they were 'continuing to work on'.
Hamilton had said yesterday the current incarnation of the Mercedes was 'one of the worst cars' he has had since joining Formula 1.
