F1 reacts to "absolute madness" of Las Vegas Grand Prix
F1 announced its return to Las Vegas on Thursday morning, with the news instantly proving to be a major hit with the drivers.
The exciting layout will take in some of the most iconic Vegas views, with drivers expected to hit speeds of 212mph [342kph] as they tear down the famous Strip.
Although there is no confirmation as yet, it is understood the race will take place across the Thanksgiving weekend of November 23-25, so forming part of the final run-in for title glory.
Reacting to the news, seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton said: "It's going to be a pretty hardcore event."
Mercedes team-mate George Russell added: "I cannot imagine what it's going to be like. It's going to be absolute madness."
With the calendar build-up resulting in double and triple-headers, especially towards the end of a season, Red Bull's reigning champion Max Verstappen suggested the race should be a stand-alone event to enjoy the fun of Vegas.
"Let's not do back to back for this one," said Verstappen with a smile. "Let's give it two weeks' break before and after. It's going to be fun."
Alpine driver Esteban Ocon added: "Are we going to race there? No! It's going to be unbelievable."
Valtteri Bottas hinted last year that his previous visit to Las Vegas may not have been as sedate as it could have been.
Again eluding to this, the Alfa Romeo driver added: "That's epic. When I left, I said never again, but I'm coming back.
"I might need to try and behave better than I did last time."
Jokingly, McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo said: "I was going to retire. I will not no more."
