Verstappen "not focused on records" in hunt for title
Max Verstappen has insisted he is "not focused on records" as he aims to beat Lewis Hamilton to the F1 title.
Dutchman Verstappen has been in stunning form this season and trails Hamilton only by virtue of being involved in two incidents in two races ahead of the summer break.
The Red Bull driver broke two records in the first half of the season, becoming the youngest in F1 history to take a grand slam at an event [win, pole position, fastest lap and led every lap] and the first to win all three events of a triple-header.
“I’m not focused on records, my aim is to win the championship, for me that’s the only one that matters,” said Verstappen.
“The wins in Austria were very nice. The win in Monaco was also very nice as well. To be honest, there’s been quite a few nice ones so far this season.
“Overall, it’s been a good start for us, we’ve been really competitive. But we need to be there at the end of the season as well, because that’s what you work for as a team, so let’s hope it’s going to be like that."
Verstappen looks ahead to "favourite track"
After being given the chance to regroup over the summer break, Verstappen will be hoping to turn his fortunes around at the Belgian Grand Prix.
The event kickstarts a triple-header including the Italian Grand Prix and Verstappen's first home race in Zandvoort and ahead of the weekend, he said of Spa-Francorchamps: “It’s my favourite track on the calendar and it’s always nice to drive there.
"I hope we can have a great result, but I will just enjoy driving the laps."
