F1 penalty points: Alonso scores first points of F1 return

Fernando Alonso scored the first penalty points of his Formula 1 return with Pierre Gasly also hit by the stewards at the Turkish Grand Prix.

Alonso and Gasly were both penalised for causing collisions in the damp Istanbul conditions, with Gasly striking the Spaniard at turn one and Alonso later turning around Mick Schumacher's Haas.

Lando Norris and Lance Stroll remain at the top of the list on eight points.

Three points will drop off Stroll's licence in late October but until then, both he and Norris are just four points off a race ban and need a clean race in the United States.

Max Verstappen picked up his first penalty points of the calendar year after his dramatic, race-ending crash with title-rival Lewis Hamilton at the Italian Grand Prix.

Hamilton remains on two points for the pair's earlier incident at Silverstone.

Alongside time penalties, driving infringements also carry penalty points to ensure driving standards are maintained.

These points expire after 12 months have elapsed but will result in a race ban should 12 points be accrued during this period.

GPFans has compiled a list of the points currently accrued by drivers and when they will expire. This article will be updated throughout the year.

Because that's the year the most of the points will expire. After a year of receiving the penalty point they are removed from their super license
